"Very Impressed”![]()
Jul 23, 2010 | Trip type: Couples
We recently stayed here (room 507) for 4 nights, and we were very impressed!
-Great assortment for breakfast (even had a large selection of gluten-free items)
-All staff spoke English
-The front desk was very helpful with writing routes on large (easy to use) tourist maps
-The metro is two steps out the front door (and very easy to use)
-Quick walk from the Train Station (great when you are rolling luggage down the street)
-The A/C was controllable by remote control and worked great
-Thin screen TV gave more room to layout personals on counter
-As non-Italian speaking, we were happy the tv channels provided CNN international
-Iternet access was easy to login and fast (they also had a guest computer for anyone to use in sitting room)
-The walk-out balcony (two chairs and a table) was large, but was way to humid and hot for us to enjoy
-Close walk to some of the main attractions (Collesuem, Roman Forum)
-Felt very safe in area
-Very quiet
-Loved the mini-fridge in room, as we brought some waters and sodas at local store
-Rooms small as others have stated, but we felt the layout was used to its fullest potential
-Bathroom was very new and beautiful
-We already had tours booked, but the Lobby had current tours that they would have booked for you

I can't even begin to describe the level of attention that the staff gave us. The relation was very personal, we got to know a few of them well. One of them borrowed me a cd that I liked that he brought from his personal collection, just because I casually mentioned that I liked the music.
The building is superb, easy access to metro, the lobby, the rooms, the restaurant were all absolutely excellent. I had a very comfortable feeling being in this hotel, it was like I was home. I have only appreciation and great thoughts for the owners and the staff, they are doing an exquisite job. If u are in Rome, stay at this hotel and will definitely come back another time.

My wife and I recently (June 2010) traveled to Europe, and this was our first time in Paris & Rome.
We flew from Paris to Rome last Tuesday morning (June 22, 2010) and arrived at the Napoleon Hotel around 10am. The cab ride cost about 45 euro's, plus tip. My wife and I both noticed the graffiti on the buildings as we began to enter Rome. It seemed very rough and run down, and was this way for most of the ride to the Napoleon after we entered Rome (about 10 minutes). Both my wife and I were concerned that we were in a bad part of town, but felt better once we entered the Napoleon.
We were greeted by Franco (Concierge), and he helped us check in. We asked if we could check in early, and he had us in our room in 10 minutes. We noticed that the hotel is old, but what isn't in Rome?! The room was about the same size as our room at the Hilton in Paris. The Napoleon has more of a Bed & Breakfast feel than a chain hotel. There was a TV, but there was only a few English Channels just like Paris. That wasn't that important to us since we didn't plan to spend a lot of time in our room. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were just ok. In fact, I bought a new pillow from the furniture store down the street for 15 euros. However, after opening it, it was about the same as the ones at the hotel. I guess they just have thinner pillows than we do in the States.
I opened our window to see our view and found it wasn't great, as it was a view of the back of an apartment building about 20 ft away. I went down to the front desk and asked if we could get a room with a better view and was told that all of the rooms had the same view, and that none of the rooms overlooked the square in the front of the building. Franco also added that this helps keep each room very quiet and we would sleep better. It really wasn't that big of a deal since we really weren't going to be there much, and he was right, it was always very quiet.
The room was very clean and had a remote controlled air conditioning that worked great. The hotel offered free wireless internet, and even had computers available at no charge in the reception area. The Napoleon also offered complimentary breakfast every day, which included eggs, toast, assorted pastries and more. It was better than the breakfast at the Hilton, and was free. The Hilton in Paris charged us 22 euros per day for internet access, and 25 euros per day / per person for a lesser continental breakfast.
We asked Franco if he could recommend some tours for us while in Rome. He not only helped us, but booked them for us with the Tour company via telephone while we waited. He was extremely helpful and professional, and even gave us a recommendation for dinner that evening that was just a couple blocks away. We decided to walk around the area near the Hotel that evening, and found tons of locals (men, women, children, old & young) walking around too. We never felt uneasy or threatened as this area appears to be mostly inhabited by locals who live and work there. We found the area to be very pleasant, and noticed an outside Theater playing a movie in the park across the street from the Hotel.
We took a cab into "City Center" each day, and it cost us around 8 - 10 euro per trip. The restaurants were all really good around the hotel, and were actually better than some we ate at that were in City Center. There is a great restaurant just a couple blocks from the hotel, and was next door to a fresh pastry shop. Again, we noticed mostly locals that were patronizing these places. The prices were better than in City Center, and the food and service was better.
We were invited to attend a complimentary wine and cheese tasting at the Hotel, which happened to be our last evening there. We attended this and met other guests from all over the world. Everyone seemed very satisfied with their stay, and were enjoying themselves. My wife and I were both raised near Napa, CA. I would say that we are a wine snobs, and the wine that the hotel was serving was excellent. The cheese and appetizers were also very good. We met the Owner (Roberto), and he made a real effort to greet each one of the guests and shared the history of the wine and cheese that he was serving (He was actually behind the bar serving). We visited with many hotel staff members that evening, and we found them to be very conscientious and proud of their hotel. They were all focused on how they can improve each guests stay. Again, it felt very "Family Owned & Operated" because it is. I was surprised to find out that Franco was not part of the family that owned the hotel because he really acts like it is his own, and will got to great lengths to ensure your comfort and happiness.
In closing, we saw a ton of hotels closer to "City Center", and had the option to move closer to downtown Rome. We had the opportunity to inquire about other hotels from other travelers who attending the same tours as us. All of them said that their hotels seemed dated, and most didn't feel their hotel was very clean or safe. Others said that they found it hard to sleep as their hotel had thin walls and was noisy. The Napoleon is extremely clean, and well kept, and the staff will do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.
One last thing that we found to be very important. It appeared that each hotel has their own set of Tour Companies that they recommend. We ended up doing two tours (Coliseum / Ruins & Vatican City), and we definitely had the best tour guides (both local Roman female guides). You will notice the other guides while you are on your tours, and you can't help but watch & listen and the quality isn't even close.
I believe and trust in the Napoleon enough that I recommended their hotel to my parents, who will now be staying there later this year.
Thanks again to the Ownership and Staff for a great stay!!

Free fast wireless internet and the staff are the best in the world. They will do ANYTHING to help you during your stay and are very kind and interested in you. The bar food is fantastic. Wine great. Bed very comfortable and bathroom high standard and well appointed. Very clean. Even the maids are extremely helpful and kind. Big advantage are the many lounge areas with comfy couches and armchairs where guests sit and chat. The decor may be a little "used" but its better than a 5 star Sheraton or Sofitel because the staff really care. The concierge is better than any hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world and I have stayed in lots. One night I arrived back at midnight and had had no dinner and the barman made me a delicious toasted ham and cheese sandwich. You cannot go wrong. I had a big problem with a flight cancellation and the concierge went out of his way to help me until it was fully handled!!! They will also arrange a nice car to pick you up or take you to the airport.

The Napoleon is a great hotel. We stayed there for 4 nights in June and would happily stay at this hotel again. The location is good - 15 minute walk to the train termini and 10 minute walk to the Colloseum but still in a quiet area. The hotel restaurant is good and the breakfast outstanding. The staff are all very professional and very helpful. The hotel provides all of the services you would expect and all the facilities are excellent.

This is one of the best. Spacious room, lovely and large sitting area outside bar and restaurant, Friday night wine tastings with great food all at no cost, and the hotel is in a good location with easy metro access, just steps from the front door. A family owned establishment that really cares about serving customers.

This hotel made our brief 3 day stay in Rome so relaxing. We enjoyed the accommodations, small but very well maintained. Lovely clean linens every day. The staff made us feel at home and were very warm and friendly. Good location for folks traveling by trains. The great breakfast was a treat each morning. Dinner was gourmet too. The entire staff takes hospitality seriously.

The Hotel Napoleon had many redeeming features not least the decor and the art on show. However, the main feature is probably the friendliness of the staff, who were always on hand when required and really pleasant to deal with. They advertise their buffet breakfasts and these certainly live up to your expectations with the variety and quality of food on offer. You could really go all day without eating again. Our room was perfect for our stay, even though we only booked a standard double, plenty of room, wardrobe space and we always returned each evening to fresh bed linen and towels etc. What more can we say, except, if you chose this hotel you will not be disappointed. We certainly hope to return one day soon!

I stayed at Napoleon for five nights two weeks ago, with my nephew (his high school graduation gift--a trip to Italy). We loved the hotel! Clean, neat, great rooms, comfortable beds, cool a/c, free wifi, excellent breakfast, and marvelous service. The concierge desk was tremendously helpful with directions, hailing taxis, restaurant recommendations, Roma passes, and so on (thanks Franco, from the Kuruvillas!). Restaurants and grocery stores close by. And one cannot beat the proximity of the Metro station, literally at the doorstep of the hotel--very convenient (and this Metro station is only one stop from the Termini).

Being a solo female traveller arriving in Rome I was immediately put at ease by the warm welcome by Francesco and his assistance with everything. It meant a lot to me .This hotel has a happy friendly atmosphere and old fashioned service . Mary in the breakfast room is a delight as are all the staff who will talk with and help you .There is also a computer free to use, relaxed comfortable lounge area and newspapers to read Thank you Hotel Napoleon!

May 28, 2010 | Trip type: Couples
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Napoleon in May. I booked directly with the hotel and we stayed for 8 days. Included in our package was free Airport pick up and a dinner in there restaurant. The room was not large but we never felt cramped. There is a spiral staircase from the reception area to the main lobby that made me feel special every time I used it. There is a metro entrance just a step from the front door. It was a 5 minute walk to the area where our tours departed which is close to the Termini train station. . The free breakfast buffet had cheeses, meats, eggs and pastries, very nice.
The real appeal for me was the people. Concierge was extremely helpful. They made and checked on reservations, made restaurant reservations, gave directions, even arranged for take out breakfast bags when we had an early departure. Every staff member we encountered was smiling and friendly. They hosted a wine and cheese tasting one night that was very nice. The Hotel Napoleon is a small family run hotel that may not have the opulence of the larger hotels but the customer care we were given is not only as good as anywhere but I say sets the standard. I can truly say it was the best lodging experience I have ever had. When we return to Rome the Hotel Napoleon is where we are going to stay

May 27, 2010 | Trip type: Couples
I was overwhelmed when choosing a hotel for our stay in Rome. The Hotel Napoleon was a great find. It is a short walk away from the Colisseum and has a Metro stop right out front.
The restaurant served excellent food and breakfast had a wide selection. The staff was fantastic.
Our room was clean and comfortable and even had a small balcony. It was nice to be in an area amongst the locals, not in an area full of other hotels and tourists (and over-priced restaurants).

May 22, 2010 | Trip type: Family
My husband and I together with our 11 year old daughter have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Napoleon.
The Hotel was great - good location 10 min walk from Termini with Metro outside, 10 min walk from Colosseum partly through pleasant park.
Our family room was clean, comfortable and everything we would expect including bath and shower facility. Situated at the rear of the Hotel meant it was extremely quiet. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of cereals, cheese, meats, fruit, egg and bacon, pastries, drinks etc. We were even served early on one occassion due to an early organised trip to the Vatican.
The concierge, in particular, was extremely helpful in spending time giving advice and organising a trip for us though all the staff were friendly and helpful allowing us to 'check in' for our return flights on-line.
We would recommend this Hotel without a doubt to anyone wanting to stay at a friendly and well run hotel offering great value in Rome.
We would also recommend the organised trip to the Vatican, although expensive, as it avoids the queues and includes pick-up from the Hotel and a knowledgable guide.
When we return to Rome we will certainly stay here.
“Excellent Hotel, Great Location”![]()
May 12, 2010 | Trip type: Family
This is an excellent hotel with a great location; a few blocks from Roma Termini train station, a few blocks from the Colosseum and just steps from the Underground Metro stop. The hotel staff is very friendly, very helpful and all speak very good English.
My sister and I had a room with 2 double beds and it was quite large especially by European standards but I did pass by a room with a queen bed that was quite a bit smaller. The room didn't have much of a view but it was away from the street and was very quiet. It had heat and A/C, a window you can open for fresh air, a large in-room safe, mini-bar, telephone, TV, desk and a couple of chairs, free in-room WiFi and a free computer in the lounge/lobby. Save yourself some time and get the log-on and password from the Concierge first. The bathroom was very nice with heated towel racks. The pillows are a little flat but other than that, it was great. Lobby/lounge is very large and very beautiful and many guests sat there enjoying an evening drink and relaxing.
The desk is maned 24 hours a day. The Concierge was extremely helpful with maps and short-cut directions and even called and confirmed our airport car service and they will print out your boarding passes for free. The hotel can arrange car service for you if you want. You can also exchange money for Euros at the hotel but their exchange rate is not good. There are 2 exchange houses right across the street from the main entrance to the Roma Termini train station. They are closed on Sundays. When you exchange money they usually give you large bills and we found that the hotel would gladly give us change in smaller Euros.
The hotel has a very nice full bar that has a manager's happy hour on Friday evenings. The bar is open from 12 noon until 12 mid-night and serves salads, pizza, soups, lasagna, sandwiches, etc. Lunch prices ranged from 4.5 Euros to 8.5 Euros.
They have a small dining room for dinner. We ate there several times and the food was excellent and reasonably priced, for Rome. Menu selections include chicken, veal, lasagna, pastas, appetizers, soups, salads, deserts, beef and fish. When we were there, prices ranged from 4.5 Euros for side dishes to 17.50 Euros for Fillet of Beef. Reservations are highly recommended due to the small size of the dining room.
A very nice, large American buffet breakfast is served in the large breakfast room each morning. Selections included scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon, cereals, bread, pasteries, yogurt, fruit, cheeses, meats, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. juices, tea and coffee. All of the service was excellent and all of the waiters/waitresses spoke very good English. An excellent choice for Rome hotel.
“There are things only a family-run hotel can do - they do it!”![]()
A thoroughly enjoyable 5-day stay. The positive attitude and excellent service from staff was outstanding, especially dealing with small problems or needs (like missing breakfast due to time change). Clearly the result of good family management and happy employees. From a guest's point of view, a very well-run family hotel giving great value. The guest lounge and bar provided a very pleasant, quiet retreat for weary tourists. Not only do we strongly recommend Napoleon, but look forward to staying there again.
“Great service made this hotel excellent”![]()
The Napolean Hotel was nice in every way. The concierge was very professional and helpful; it really made my trip enjoyable. I was traveling for business and I needed to carry around equipmnet and take taxis all over the city. They looked up locations and made arrangements for me. When I wanted to sightsee and get food recommendations they were just as helpful. The breakfast is good. The internet was free. My single room was small but clean and nice. The walls aren't thick so I heard a little bit of noise but it wasn't a problem. If I go back to Rome I will make a special effort to stay at the Napoleon.
“At last. Service - the way i remember it - 1st class!!!”![]()
A hotel that prides itself on family ownership and quality service. We stayed Friday to Monday (4 - 7th Dec). Our rooms were ready and waiting, even on an early arrival. Nothing is to much trouble for any of the staff. Breakfast is great - with eggs and bacon, fruit, pastries, juices etc etc.
The local area is OK and we found one or two nice bars and restaurants. Its not a bad area to base yourself as the metro station outside can whisk you off to the Vatican in 15 mins at a cost of €1 each. You can even buy your tickets in the hotel.
A really nice bottle of wine in the bar can be had for about €13.
Thanks for a great weekend and a great experience - Rome was great!!!
“Great Hotel for a pre Cruise stay”![]()
We stayed with a large group of family and friends for a couple of nights before our Rome based cruise. This is a great hotel, ideal for walking or the metro and it has a very friendly and helpful staff and a breakfast to set you up for the day.. We considered many other hotels and we were very pleased with our choice and look forward to staying there again on our next visit to Rome.

We got married in Rome in August and stayed in the napoleon hotel a couple days before and after the cermony. We got first class treatment. On spec they arranged the car and a lady to call to the hotel rome the morning of the wedding to do my hair and makeup. The staff in the hotel were so helpful. They couldnt do enough for us. The hotel was clean and the food was excellent and value for money. Special thanks to all the staff for making our wedding week one to remember. We would highly recommend the hotel.
“The best hotel and service we had throughout our trip”![]()
Fantastic hotel, beautiful large clean rooms, lovely set out and interiors throughout the hotel. Breakfast was included and was so good, large variety. The location was central. The staff were impeccable and offered great advice and were in general very helpful. This hotel went above my expectations for the price we payed. I will definitely stay at Hotel Napoleon next time I am in Rome.
“Great Rome Hotel”![]()
I booked this hotel for a 40th Birthday Trip for my daughter to Rome. It turned out to be wonderful. The location is good as you can walk to many sites, or if needed, the Metro is litterally right outside their front door, a nice feature when you are two woman alone. The rooms are attractive and comfortable. The morning buffet breakfast is more than adaquate..watch out for the bakery as it was just too good.
As we stayed seven nights we recieved a dinner in the restaurant and limo service from the airport, nice additions.
But best of all the staff is exceptional. They are so helpful and make you feel they are glad you are there. Several good restaurants are close by. All in all a great experience.

This hotel lives up to the excellent reviews it receives on this site. Everyone who works there is courteous, efficient and helpful. Special thanks to Roberto, a conceirge. He was able to answer all my questions and arrange tours and transfers for us very well. The lounge is a great area to meet other guests for a drink or just to talk about your day. The free internet is a bonus. There are several good restaurants near by and the hotel restaurant serves wonderful food as well. Try the lasagna. I had it 3 times. Around the corner there is a large gelateria that serves many flavours of gelato. Have one every day! The buffet breakfast that is included with your room provides lots of choice. There are always scrambled eggs and a delious bacon. You can even order a cafe latte. Wonderful.

Just came back from a stay in Rome. Enjoyed the charm and cleanliness of this hotel. The locaiton of the hotel was fabulous including being near the Metro and the Termino Central. The dining service was superb including excellent dinner service at reasonable prices.
But my heart goes to this hotel for serving capuccino in the morning with the froth shaped into a heart (came with the daily complimentary breakfast buffet).

My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at Hotel Napoleon. Having arrived very late it was nice to be greeted by a cheerful and very helpful consierge. In fact all staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and well furnished with air conditioning (very welcome in the August heat!) and a great powerful shower. The hotel restaurant/bar is great value for money (we dined there on 2 of our four nights at the hotel) and was as good as, if not better than many of the local restaurants. The hotel is extremely well placed for exploring Rome with a tube station on its doorstep and the Coloseum just a 10 minute walk away! We would definitely stay here again and would recommend the Napoleon Hotel to anyone visiting Rome.

Very convenient for the railway station to the airport. Will definately go back again.

What a wonderful hotel. We felt like family from the moment we were welcomed by Franco. He escorted us to our room to freshen up and when we returned down stairs he had his map and highlighters ready to direct us to everywhere we wanted to go. He made dinner reservations for us, helped us get tickets printed for the Vatican, helped with the metro and helped us figure out the best way to get to the cruise terminal. At breakfast they helped us find safe foods for our daughter who has a severe peanut & tree nut allergy to eat each morning. Our room was incredible. The family room had separate bed for both of our children and they were thrilled! The welcome wine tasting was also fun! Thanks for everything!

My friend and I came to Rome to experience the history and monuments of the city. Hotel Napoleon was the perfect base to do this from. The concierge and staff did a wonderful job of advising us on which places to visit, and when. And also went out of their way to find out information on those little gems we stumbled upon way off the beaten track which weren't widely known about or written about. (One morning we woke up to a pigeon hole full of internet printouts on a particular church we found particularly fascinating!!) The location was perfect. The Metro just outside the door when needed, and the Colloseum only a 5 minute walk down the hill and through a gorgeous little park. Perfect for our needs.

When in Rome - where do you chose to stay .... well if you have been before you might have such delightful memories that you would go no-where else. We chose this hotel based on reviews, location & price. What a delight to find a family run hotel that prides itself on integrity. From the minute you arrive you are greeted and guided by the best and unobtrusive Concierge highlighting the metro just outside the door and directions to all the famous sites along with a fabulous, inexpensive restaurant to dine that night just down the road.

My fiance and I flew into Rome and took the train into the city. We enjoyed the close access of the hotel to the train and subway station. The walk closer into the major sightseeing areas can take a little longer so I would recommend buying a subway pass to save your feet! Great hotel with friendly staff and the breakfast was a great perk as well.

This was my fourth visit to Rome. I usually try and stay in 4* hotel in reasonable area. This hotel was great. The situation is lovely on a leafy square with a park with some swings a slide. There is an entrance to the metro 10 yards away from the entrance to the hotel. The staff were really lovely and welcoming. The room was a standard room. It had a small entrance hall, a shower room and another door into the twin bedroom. The room was ok in size and the beds were comfy. TV had BBC world if you cant do without news. Clean . I peeked at the superior rooms and they were bigger with a living area. There is a huge area on the first floor with lots of comfy sofas and two separate areas with big flat screen TV’s if there were a group of you travelling. The bar prices were very reasonable compared to places in the rest of rome and restaurants. The food in the restaurant was nice, and again, comparably priced. I sent my steak back as it was too well done ( yes I am english!) and they seemed genuinely devastated and brought me back the best steak I have ever eaten. The breakfast was really great fresh bread, croissants, eggs, bacon, ham , fruit etc etc Walking distance ti the colisseum and several nice restaurants. The park looks lovely during the day, is locked at night and the shops all board up at night making it look less salubrious but we still felt very safe. We would definately stay here again.
